Eye Examinations
in East Finchley
At David Hillel practice, an eye examination is a thorough clinical assessment of both your vision and the health of your eyes, carried out carefully, explained fully, and adapted to your individual needs.
A thorough eye examination
Our examinations take 45 minutes. That is longer than many practices offer, and deliberately so. It gives us time to understand your concerns, assess your eyes with care, and discuss our findings with you before you leave.

Our Eye Examinations
We examine adults and children of all ages. You do not need to be experiencing problems to benefit from an examination, many conditions develop without obvious symptoms, and early detection makes a significant difference to outcomes.
Our examinations are particularly well suited to:
- Adults who want a thorough, unhurried assessment from clinicians they will come to know over time.
- Patients with complex prescriptions or specific visual demands, such as those working at screens for long periods.
- Anyone who has been told they have an eye condition but feels it has not been clearly explained.
- Patients referred by a GP or hospital specialist.
- Children of any age, including pre-school children and those with additional needs.

Our Eye examination process
Before we examine your eyes, we take time to talk with you. We want to understand your daily life, your visual concerns and your history. That conversation shapes the examination that follows.
During the appointment, we assess:
- The quality and range of your sight, your focusing ability, and whether your current prescription is still appropriate.
- The internal and external structures of the eye, including the retina, optic nerve, cornea and lens. We check for signs of conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts and macular degeneration.
- How your eyes work together, and whether there are any issues with alignment or focusing comfort.
We use a combination of advanced clinical equipment and well-established techniques, selecting the approach that gives the most accurate result for each patient.
Eyecare for children
Children's eyes change quickly, and some conditions are far easier to address when they are caught early. Pre-school eye examinations, in particular, can identify problems before they affect a child's development, confidence or learning.

Specialist Services
Some patients have needs that go beyond a routine eye examination. Our clinical team has experience in specialist and secondary care, and we hold referral relationships with local GPs and hospital departments. If you are not sure whether we can help, please ask.
