Contact lenses suit more people than many expect. Modern lens materials have improved considerably, and most prescriptions — including complex ones — can be corrected with well-fitted lenses worn safely and comfortably.

We fit contact lenses carefully. That means a thorough assessment of your eyes, clear guidance on which lenses are appropriate for your prescription and lifestyle, and proper instruction in how to use and care for them. We also offer ongoing aftercare, so any concerns are dealt with promptly.
If you have tried contact lenses before and found them uncomfortable or impractical, it is worth discussing this with us. Many patients who have not succeeded with lenses elsewhere do so here.
Who contact lenses can help
Contact lenses are suitable for a wide range of patients, including:
- Adults and young people wanting an alternative to glasses for everyday use or for sport and leisure.
- Patients with complex prescriptions, including high degrees of short-sightedness, long-sightedness or astigmatism.
- Children — contact lenses can be suitable from primary school age and are sometimes clinically preferable to glasses.
- Patients with keratoconus or other corneal conditions, for whom specialist lenses may provide vision that glasses cannot match.
- Those who have tried lenses before without success and would like a second opinion on fit or lens type,
Some patients qualify for NHS help with the cost of contact lenses and replacements. This includes children. Ask us about this when you book.
What to expect
A contact lens appointment begins with an assessment of your eyes and your prescription. If you have worn lenses before, we will discuss what has and has not worked. If you are new to lenses, we will explain the options and make a recommendation.
We then fit a trial lens and assess the fit carefully before anything is finalised. You will receive full instruction in how to insert, remove and care for your lenses before you leave. We do not consider the appointment complete until you are confident in handling them.
Aftercare is included. We schedule a follow-up to check that the lenses are fitting and performing well, and we are available between appointments if any concerns arise.
The cost of a contact lens appointment is from £15 for existing lens wearers, and from £44 for those new to contact lenses. Aftercare and instruction are included. The cost of replacement lenses is discussed clearly at the appointment.
